Talking Island

Where human careers began.

Classic Talking Island village — walled starter town, lighthouse, and green fields
Talking Island as many remember it before Goddess of Destruction — the walled village and lighthouse every human passed through.

Why this place sticks

The first load-in. Newbie weapons, the run to the coast, the moment you realized Aden was huge. For countless NA players this is day one — before the first clan invite, before the first siege.

How Talking Island changed over the chronicles

Towns on Live weren’t static — NCSoft rebuilt zones when the main story moved. Here’s the editorial map of which era changed what, and the lore reason when we know it.

  1. Prelude – High Five (Classic)

    The walled starter village

This is the Talking Island most veterans picture: a compact walled village, the cliff lighthouse, dirt paths, and the sea on three sides. Every human character on classic Live started here — first weapon, first buff, first run toward Gludin or the main continent.

    Lore behind the change

In the early kingdom storyline, Talking Island was the human training ground — quiet, isolated, and deliberately small so new players learned the world before Aden’s politics.

    • Walled village layout with central square and gate
    • Lighthouse landmark on the northern coast
    • Low-level hunting fields outside the walls
    • Human starter quests and first class transfers

  2. Goddess of Destruction · Awakening (2011+)

    Shilen breaks the island

Awakening didn’t tweak Talking Island — it replaced it. The old village layout vanished as the Goddess of Destruction saga advanced. Players logged in to floating terrain, new architecture, and a zone built around the free-to-play relaunch rather than the C1 starter hub.

    Lore behind the change

The live story blamed Shilen’s curse and the war among the gods for devastating the island. NCSoft used that lore to justify a full map rebuild while introducing Awakening classes and the F2P business model.

    • Original walled village removed on Live
    • New floating / academy-style geography
    • Awakening class content tied to the zone
    • Starter flow redesigned for F2P onboarding
  3. Epic Tale of Aden · Ertheia (2014+)

    Academy and the Ertheia arrival

Ertheia pushed another pass: the Talking Island Academy as a hub, dimensional-stranger story beats, and a map that assumes you never saw the 2004 village. On Live today, ‘Talking Island’ means the post-GoD academy zone — not the lighthouse screenshot in your old folder.

    Lore behind the change

Ertheia refugees and dimensional rifts became the framing for yet another starter overhaul, linking the zone to the fourth saga instead of the original human kingdom prologue.

    • Academy-centric hub and revised quest line
    • Ertheia race introduction on Live
    • Further distance from the classic C1 layout
